Childhood Matters

Our Family Coalition

Our Family Coalition promotes the civil rights and well-being of Bay Area lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) families with children and prospective parents through education, advocacy, social networking and grassroots community organizing.

Sports 4 Kids

The mission of Sports4Kids is to support and create youth sports and recreational opportunities to enhance the health and well-being of youth and communities.

Ecoliteracy

The Center has awarded grants to the Berkeley Unified School District to support the School Lunch Initiative at Berkeley, a major effort to design and implement curriculum and food service innovations across a public school district. The Center is also contributing technical assistance to the Initiative, using the planning framework of the CEL Rethinking School Lunch program.

School Linked Health Services (SLHS) Program

The School Linked Health Services (SLHS) Program, funded through Alameda County Measure A funds, is a partnership between the City Of Berkeley (CoB) and the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD). SLHS was created to improve health and education outcomes for K-5 students by strengthening, building and maintaining formal linkages between the CoB Public Health and BUSD. The program offers

  • Health consultations for BUSD families, staff and administration, with a focus on K-5 students. This  includes links to Public Health Nursing case management.  See the list of Public Health Consultation services for BUSD.
  • Workshops and trainings on health-related issues for BUSD families, staff, and administration.
  • Coordination of COB Public Health programs in BUSD K-8 schools and support for BUSD in addressing health-related issues for students, families and staff.  See our brochure of Public Health Programs for Berkeley Elementary schools.

The Parent Institute: Tips Parents Can Use to Help Their Children

National Association for the Education of Young Children

NAEYC is the nation's largest organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of programs for children from birth through third grade.

National Education Association (NEA)

NEA advances the cause of public education. The NEA website has a section for parents about how to get involved in and improve their children's education.

National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education

NCPIE advocates the involvement of parents and families in their children's education, and encourages relationships among homes, schools, and communities to enhance the education of all of our nation's young people.

Parents' Action for Children

It is a national non-profit dedicated to advancing the interests of families and young children. The Parents' Action website provides parent education materials.
